Here’s a few wonderful harvest themed experiences (and one that I just had to include because it’s unique)

Harvest Festival – 13 September, Kinsbrook Vineyard, Sussex – a vibrant family-friendly harvest festival awaits, including live music and entertainment. The event takes place from 11-6 and there will be seasonal food offerings, harvest themed tours and masterclasses plus plenty of activities for kids. A fantastic day of vineyard fun.

Harvest Tasting Menu – 18 September, Squerryes, Kent – this is a decadent treat.  A seasonally-led six course tasting menu sourced from the estate.

Sauna & Sip – 21 September, Stanlake Park, Berkshire – this collaboration with the Horse Box Sauna includes a wood-fired sauna, and optional cold plunge, a glass of sparkling wine and a freshly prepared deli board all surrounded by the tranquillity of nature.

Dosage Tasting Experience – 26 September – 8 November, Rathfinny Estate, Sussex - I attended one of these interactive experiences last year and it was fun and informative. They only run during harvest as you can’t access the winery. After taking a short walk around the estate and tasting some of their wines you get to experiment with the ‘dosage’ (the extra sugar added before corking). It’s super interesting to sample a zero dosage wine then taste the impact of different amounts of sugar. It’s a great insight into the wine making process.

Blooms and bubbly

There are some fantastic events this September combining sparkling wine and flowers:

Fizz & Flowers – 11 September, Featherstone Flowers, Hampshire – This event is in collaboration with Black Chalk bringing their fantastic fizz to the flower fields so you can enjoy award-winning wine whist picking last summer flowers.

Sip & Snip – 13 September – Gingerly Green Flower Farm, Kent - Simpsons Wine Estate will be visiting Gingerly Green Flower Farm for a tasting in the flower field so you can cut your own flowers and enjoy the still and sparkling estate-grown wines with a stunning backdrop.

Petal & Plate – 20 September – Vines of Cheshire – Be amongst the first to experience Cheshire’s stunning new vineyard with this special event celebrating seasonality, creativity and community. Enjoy a glass of sparkling wine, make an elegant centrepiece arrangement using locally grown blooms under the guidance of flower farmer Sheila. Once complete enjoy a delicious buffet lunch. Fabulous!

Get hands-on with harvest

Boutique vineyards all over the country rely on volunteers to help with harvest. The warm, sunny weather this year has meant some started harvesting in August for the first time in their history.  I’ve helped with harvest at several vineyards over the last couple of years and found it to be a fantastic experience. You can use the ‘harvest helper’ filter on the vineyard finder to search for vineyards that welcome volunteers.

If you want to find out more about what it’s like helping with harvest read the blog.
