Autumn is a great time to visit a vineyard with some offering new seasonal menus and some exciting special events. There’s plenty of treats in store for Halloween, final chance to catch some harvest events or maybe start planning a delicious Sunday roast at a vineyard? All the details are below.

Here's some exciting things to look out for at vineyards across the country:

Squerryes, Kent – Fridays & Saturdays

The new tasting bar at Squerryes is hosting Joy Hour on Fridays and Saturdays from 17.31 (the year the Warde family bought Squerryes Estate) where you can buy vintages not usually available by the glass or get a small plate to complement your glass – offers will change regularly.

Kingscote Estate, Sussex - Sunday 27 October / Sunday 24 November

'As many glasses of bubbles as your heart desires and a view to die for' - I can't think of a better reason to do Sunday Brunch.

Stanlake Park, Berkshire - 1st November,

A fun evening awaits as you taste six different styles of wine from different countries. Will your tastebuds be tricked or are they all treats? Halloween fancy dress encouraged.

Knightor Winery, Cornwall – 1st November

If bloodcurdling live music and hauntingly good cocktails are your thing then dress in your scariest best and don’t miss the party at Knightor!

Chet Valley Vineyard, Norfolk – 1st November

A spooky disco awaits at Chet Valley Vineyard where the best dressed can win a wine flight for 2!

Visit a vineyard for Sunday roast

It’s definitely the season for Sunday roasts, so it’s great news that some vineyard restaurants have delicious roasts and all the trimmings available. And, of course, these can be washed down with wines made from the very vines many of the restaurants overlook. They tend to be really popular so booking is essential.

I’ve experienced the wonderful Sunday lunch at Llanerch in South Wales myself and was blown away by the quality food and first-class service.

If you’re visiting Sussex there’s no shortage of options: Tinwood Estate, Bolney Estate, Flint Barns at Rathfinny Estate and Rows & Vine at Ridgeview all look delightful.

Last chance for harvest events

The volatile weather has meant grape picking schedules have often changed at short notice with some vineyards having to put out last minute pleas for harvest helpers. Here’s a couple of paid harvest themed events:

An Autumn wine weekend the weather can’t spoil

With a high street tasting room and easy access to out-of-town vineyards nearby, Arundel in West Sussex, has a lot to offer the English sparkling wine enthusiast. Read the blog for tips on a fantastic fizz-filled mini break that’s perfect for Autumn / Winter.
